IDOT worker critically hurt in hit-and-run on Dan Ryan

(MCT) — An Illinois Department of Transportation worker helping a stalled motorist was struck and critically injured by a hit-and-run driver on the Dan Ryan Expressway this morning, authorities said.

The Minuteman worker was assisting the motorist in the right lane near 26th Street when he was hit by a silver car around midnight, according to the Illinois state police.

The worker was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for a fractured right leg, but physicians found he had also suffered some internal bleeding, said State Trooper Ivan Bukaczyk.

The worker's condition was listed as critical.

The car didn't stop and the motorist remained at-large this morning, Bukaczyk said.

Motorists who injure state workers face up to 14 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
