Both David Sinkular of Coal City and Bryan Erickson of Seneca are feeling good about the way their golf teams are evolving these days. The Coalers have 20 boys and three girls on the squad this year and Erickson's squad has 16 boys and five girls.

"I think one of our strengths is that we are young," Sinkular said. "We have a lot of room to grow. The kids listen well."

Which is a good thing considering that of the 20 boys out for the team, 10 are sophomores and five are freshmen. On Seneca's side, of Erickson's top six players, two are seniors, three are juniors — two with experience — and he's got a sophomore who is a returning as an Interstate Eight Conference standout.
