Experiencing IT

Internships plug GAVC students into the real world

All four returning computer maintenance technology (CMT) students from the Grundy Area Vocational Center got a taste of the information technology (IT) field beyond a classroom setting this summer.

In the past, the CMT program at GAVC has partnered with the Grundy County Housing Authority and area schools for summer internships. CMT students have also taken part in technology projects at the Grundy County Special Education Cooperation, We Care of Grundy County and other organizations.

This year, two of the four second-year CMT students were able to intern at local schools, and the others helped pioneer a new internship partnership between GAVC and Morris Hospital.

What is your stance on a proposed 1 percent sales tax to fund local school building projects?

I'm in favor of anything that will help improve school finances
I will support it if it helps to lower my property taxes
I oppose it because I don't believe it will impact property taxes and I will just pay twice
I'm against any additional taxes
I have not heard enough yet to form an opinion
