Exchange students to be welcomed with Sunday picnic

Students from Italy, Paraguay staying in Minooka, Channahon

Area families hosting exchange students from across the globe invite community members and their families to attend a welcome picnic for these students from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at Harris Forest Preserve in Yorkville.

The picnic will be held in Shelter #2. Harris Forest Preserve is on Rt. 71 just west of Illinois 47. There will be games and fun for everyone.

Those attending are asked to bring their own place settings, non-alcoholic drinks, and a dish to pass to serve 12.

This picnic will be the first chance to meet the students who will be here for ten months as part of AFS Intercultural Programs. AFS is the oldest student exchange program in the United States.

This year exchange students visiting Grundy area communities include:

• Andrea Fronteddu from Italy with the Ken and Kathy Kunz family in Minooka.

• Elizabeth Shih from Paraguay with the Cindy Koulis family in Channahon.

AFS is still seeking host families for this year in Newark and Hinckley-Big Rock.
