Sox aren't yet facing Armageddon

The last time the White Sox played a series at Detroit, from July 20-22, they were swept. Many Sox fans were ready to give up on the season.

Then again, many Sox fans have been ready to give up on the season at plenty of other junctures. When the Sox went 3-10 during a stretch from late April into early May, their bandwagon got noticeably lighter. A 4-10 run in June, which culminated in back-to-back losses to the Cubs, lightened it again. Even after the Sox stayed in first place into August, an 0-3 trip to Kansas City had some giving up hope.

The journey has gotten bumpy a few times for the Sox, and they've been resilient through it all. Nothing that's happened to date has derailed them from the path to the playoffs. And nothing that happens between now and Sunday necessarily will, either.
