Chicago average gas prices highest in the nation

(MCT) — Average gasoline prices in Chicago were the highest in the nation Tuesday and remain well above the $4-per-gallon level heading into the Labor Day holiday weekend and in anticipation of shortages from a Gulf Coast hurricane.

The gas-price average for the city of Chicago was $4.37 per gallon for regular fuel Tuesday and $4.16 in the Chicago metro area, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report. The average for Illinois was $3.98. The national average was $3.76 per gallon.
