City not fast to act on speed limit

Will continue discussing Old Stage Road change

City officials discussed the Old Stage Road speed limit again Tuesday, but a decision has not yet been made on whether to keep it 25 mph or change it back to 35 mph.

The city council voted at its June 4 meeting to change the speed limit from 35 to 25. The request was initiated by Hatcher's Woods resident Harry Benner, who was concerned with the safety of pedestrians.

But during a ensuing Street and Alley Committee meeting, Hatcher's Woods resident Dave Hextell told the committee he felt the majority of the neighborhood did not want the reduction in the speed limit. He submitted a petition with 39 signatures wanting the speed at 35 mph.

What is your stance on a proposed 1 percent sales tax to fund local school building projects?

I'm in favor of anything that will help improve school finances
I will support it if it helps to lower my property taxes
I oppose it because I don't believe it will impact property taxes and I will just pay twice
I'm against any additional taxes
I have not heard enough yet to form an opinion
