Minooka High board excited about ACT scores

Class of 2012 posted district's highest scores ever on exam

MINOOKA — Minooka Community High School board of education members were thrilled to hear Thursday that ACT scores from this past spring’s graduating class showed significant improvements over the previous year in several areas and surpassed state and national averages in all.

Director of Curriculum and Instruction Bob Williams attributes the increase to changes made in the district’s curriculum three years ago. The district aligned its curriculum to college readiness standards and state learning standards when it rewrote its comprehensive plan.

Implementing double-blocked algebra and geometry for students who need additional days of math, and Read 180 and 182, which provide varying levels of reading assistance, have also made a difference in student scores.
