$500K bond for man charged in Damen Avenue hit-and-run

(MCT) — Witnesses estimated a man was driving 50 mph over the speed limit on a Chicago street before he hit a man selling newspapers, ran over him as he lay on the ground and then drove off, leaving the man mortally wounded, prosecutors said.

Officers arrested Anthony Castillo, 23, about a mile away a few minutes after the man was struck around 4:30 a.m. Friday, police said. The victim – 51-year-old Robert Butler of Bellwood – died near the spot where he was struck, on a bridge on Damen Avenue that passes over the Stevenson Expressway on the Southwest Side, authorities said.
