General Roundup: Morris volleyball wins Pontiac Invite
PONTIAC — Morris won the Pontiac varsity girls volleyball invitational on Saturday, winning all 4 of its matches.
“It was a great day in Pontiac,” Morris coach Jackie Litwiller said. “The girls worked really hard and played well together.”
The Redskins (9-3) defeated La Salle-Peru 25-10, 15-25, 18-16 behind 9 kills from Kendall Korte, 8 kills from Laney Torkelson and Marcella Toups, 5 aces and 12 digs from Joanna Nowicki, 17 digs from Morgan Hussey and 31 assists from Katie Chatten. In a 25-19, 17-25, 15-4 win over Dwight, Korte had 11 kills and 10 digs, Torkelson had 10 kills and 4 aces, Chatten had 5 aces, 11 digs and 29 assists and Hussey had 12 digs.
Morris won 25-21, 25-19 over Pontiac behind 10 kills from Korte, 4 aces from Hussey and 26 assists from Chatten. In a 25-14, 21-25, 15-10 win over Herscher, Torkelson had 7 kills and 2 blocks, Nowicki had 3 aces and Chatten had 20 assists.
Lady Irish Invitational
SENECA — Host Seneca finished second to Manteno Saturday. The Lady Irish defeated St. Anne (25-11, 25-16), Kewanee (25-12, 25-17) and Peotone (25-15, 25-19) in pool play. They were a 25-17, 25-22 semifinal winner over Reed-Custer, but fell 27-25, 25-21 to Manteno for the championship.
Against Manteno, the Lady Irish featured 5 kills, 4 points and 5 digs from Danielle Hauch, 5 kills from Nicole Pihl, 4 kills from Aspen Stuedemann and 3 blocks and 6 assists from Kayla Haines.
