Daughter's teacher testifies for defense

JOLIET, Ill. — An Oswego teacher and investigators from the Illinois State Police were called by Christopher Vaughn's attorneys to testify Friday morning.

Cassandra "Sandy" Vaughn's fifth-grade teacher, Debra Mogle, was first up. At the time of the shooting deaths of Cassandra, her siblings and her mother, Mogle was teaching at Old Post Elementary School in Oswego Community Unit School District 308.

Vaughn attorney George Lenard asked Mogle to talk about different conversations she had with Kimberly in the months prior to Kimberly's death on June 14, 2007. She shared one phone call that took place at some unidentified point in the year.

What is your stance on a proposed 1 percent sales tax to fund local school building projects?

I'm in favor of anything that will help improve school finances
I will support it if it helps to lower my property taxes
I oppose it because I don't believe it will impact property taxes and I will just pay twice
I'm against any additional taxes
I have not heard enough yet to form an opinion
