Retailers take ever-earlier aim at Christmas shoppers
(MCT) — September hadn't even started, but that didn't stop retailers from talking Christmas: Wal-Mart said it would kick off its holiday layaway promotion just two weeks after Labor Day -- a full month early. And just a few weeks later, Toys R Us and Kmart said they'd do away with layaway fees altogether.
They weren't the only ones early to the holiday party. Oakbrook Center's Neiman Marcus debuted a decked-out display of Christmas trees, collectibles and holiday decor in August.
