JJC showcases pieces by former art students
Five area artists are among group being recognized by college
JOLIET, Ill. — The Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Department’s latest art exhibition, “Now and Then,” is now open in the Laura A. Sprague Art Gallery, located in its new space on the first floor of J-Building on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet. The show will run until Oct. 19.
The exhibit features the works of 27 former JJC art students: both pieces that were done as students that are now part of the college’s permanent collection of student art, and pieces they have completed more recently in their post-JJC careers. In total, the exhibit features 74 works of art representing a wide range of mediums, including sculpture, painting and photography. A few of the area artists featured in the show include:
• Anya Dankova of Shorewood
• Margie Glass Sula of Morris
• Jennifer Lambert of Chicago, formerly of Channahon
• Lauren Turk of Channahon
• Gary A. Wilsterman of Custer Park
Curated by JJC Art Professor Joe Milosevich and art student Pedro Palacios, this unique exhibit is the first to be held in the art gallery’s new space, the former JJC bookstore on the first floor of J-Building.
A reception to celebrate the new art gallery will be held Oct. 11. The exhibition is free and open to the public, Monday through Friday.
