Morris soccer breaks out against Sycamore
Despite trailing the visiting Sycamore Spartans in the early going of Thursday’s home soccer match, the Morris Redskins were fairly dominant from start to finish in a pivotal conference matchup. Powered by a goal and two assists from junior midfielder Matt Thayer, the Redskins would eventually go on to beat the Spartans by a score of 5-1.
The Redskins were able to control possession in the early going against the Spartans, but fell behind 1-0 when a lengthy free kick for Sycamore was headed in by Spartan midfielder Dylan Schmidt in the ninth minute. However, despite trailing, the Redskins continued to attack and control the ball.
“Overall, tonight was the crispest I’ve seen us play lately, but it was a game that took a while to develop tonight, and that’s why I was trying to tell them that they have to be patient,” Morris coach David Valdivia said. “You can’t force it, and sometimes doing less is doing more.”
