Chicago man charged with beating prosecutor

CHICAGO (MCT) — A reputed gang member has been charged in the attack on a Cook County prosecutor who tried to intervene when he saw two men harassing a couple they believed to be gay.

Edgar Diaz, 21, of Chicago, was charged with attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery, authorities said. He was arrested last week and identified by witnesses to the beating, police said. He was ordered held Monday on $750,000 bond by Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil.
