‘The Great Church Giveaway’

Minooka Bible Church’s free ‘garage sale’ is Saturday

MINOOKA — Minooka Bible Church will conduct its annual “The Great Church Giveaway” from 8 a.m. to noon on Sept. 29.

This annual event is a large “garage sale” open to the community where everything is free.

There will also be free popcorn and baskets – donated by local merchants and church members – will be raffled throughout the event for free.

Associate Pastor David Jankowski said MBC modeled this event after a similar event in Morris.

“We wanted to discover some more ways for MBC to engage our community in a direct way. After much brainstorming and research, we learned of the Morris Christian Church’s giveaway. Once we learned the basics, we decided that we could give the idea the MBC special touch, and we did,” Jankowski said.

And, the church did have a special touch. Last year, around 700 people within the community attended and benefited from the giveaway. For many people this is their way of shopping for clothes, housewares and other items for the year.

“The best part of ‘The Great Church Giveaway’ is hearing people ask, ‘Is all of this REALLY free?’ Jankowski said.

“I love seeing mothers who seem to be struggling to make ends meet come in and take diapers and pick up clothes. The second best part is watching our MBC family bring stuff  by the truckload, and then watching their faces of joy as we really help people in need.”

Jankowski continued, “Our worship area is filled with good things that people are willing to give away when they could hold their own garage sales and make hundreds of dollars.”

Donations are accepted at the church from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28. Please donate gently used items at this time.

Jankowski, who is also the head of MBC’s “Mission 2012” team within the church, comments that this event is only one of 12 missions the church has had in store this year.

“Today, the Great Church Giveaway is just one-twelfth of our effort to serve the community in Jesus’ name.”
