Changes in county contest mean big prizes for winners
When kids hear the word “trash,” normally they do not associate it with prizes.
The Grundy County Environmental & Resource Conservation Office hopes to change that for a few lucky students in Grundy County.
This September kicks off Grundy County’s first-ever Fall TRASHformations Contest. Historically, the TRASHformations contest has been held in the spring, recognizing Earth Day on April 22.
After receiving feedback from teachers, the office rescheduled the program to coincide with what kids are learning in the classroom during the months of September and October. These months review science topics such as environment, natural resources and recycling.
Children are given the opportunity to participate within their own classroom and school. Classroom/School winners are then forwarded on to the county for final judging.
This year’s prizes include a refurbished laptop for the grand-prize winner, along with gift cards and other fun prizes.
Information has been forwarded to all schools and teachers within the county.
