One arrested, officer hurt in accident following Montgomery shooting incident
(MCT) — One man has been arrested and another person is being sought after a police officer responding to a shooting incident at a west suburban party was seriously injured in a car accident involving someone fleeing the party.
Kendall J. Collier, of the 100 block of Linden Drive in Oswego, was driving the 1998 white Chevy Malibu that hit the police squad car about 12:15 a.m. this morning in the 700 block of Oakton Avenue in Montgomery, according to Montgomery Chief of Police Daniel Meyers.
The officer in the squad car, who was responding to the scene after police received a report of shots being fired about 12:09 a.m., was seriously injured, Meyers said, and was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where his condition has since stabilized.
Collier was also injured, apparently from hitting his head on the steering wheel of the Malibu, and was treated and released from Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora. He was since charged with aggravated driving under the influence and will appear in Kane County bond court today.
Police are still searching for the individual who fired the shots that started the mass exodus at the party scene, Meyers said. He said that police did recover a .45-caliber handgun in a black Dodge pickup truck at the scene.
