Published: Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 6:57 a.m. CDT

Morris Hospital is hosting a blood drive in cooperation with Heartland Blood Centers on Monday, Oct. 15, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. in Education Rooms 2 & 3 on the lower level of Morris Hospital, 150 W. High Street in Morris.

In order to donate blood, potential donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health and feeling well on the day of donation, and be at least 17 years old.

In Illinois, 16 year olds may donate with written approval from a parent or guardian. Donating one unit of blood can save the lives of up to three people.

The entire process for donating blood takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Donors should bring a photo ID with proof of age. Those planning to donate should eat within four hours preceding the donation.

Everyone who donates will receive a breast cancer awareness month t-shirt.

Appointments are recommended by calling Morris Hospital at (815) 942-2932, ext. 7370. Walk-ins are welcome.
