Mr. Michael D. "Mike" Durkee, 55, of rural Morris, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 2, 2012.
Born March 9, 1957, in Morris, Michael was the son of James L. and Donna J. (Harseim) Durkee. He attended Immaculate Conception school and graduated from Morris Community High School with the class of 1975.
He was employed as a pipefitter with Union Local 597 in Joliet, Ill., for more than 34 years until retiring in 2009.
Mike was a fan of the NHRA, enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time visiting with his many friends and family. He was extremely proud of his new baby granddaughter, Scarlett Jo.
Survivors included his two children, Jim (Jenny) Durkee of Channahon and Amy (Ryan Ledvina) Durkee of Morris; granddaughter, Scarlett Jo; mother, Donna (Larry) Hartman of Bella Vista, Ark.; two brothers, Ken Durkee of Morris, and Craig (Kristy Swango) Durkee of Ottawa, Ill., one niece, Brooke Durkee; one nephew, Steffan Durkee; along with several cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father on July 11, 1975.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at U.C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris, where funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012. Rev. Edward J. Howe, CR, of Immaculate Conception Church will officiate.
Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
