In the 37th minute, Hahn stonewalled a shot by Chava Villanueva and a rebound attempt by junior midfielder Kyle Monk on Morris’ best scoring chance of the half, but Yorkville would go on to carry that 4-0 lead into the break.

Despite a seemingly insurmountable deficit, the Redskins continued to push forward in the second half in an effort to end senior night on a high note.

“It was amazing seeing this team stay out there with their heads up,” senior captain Connor said. “At halftime, I actually had a really big speech after coach had talked, and I made sure that they weren’t gonna put their feelings down, and that they weren’t gonna get down about any of this.”

An early Yorkville goal in the second half may have put the game out of reach for the Redskins, but Morris continued to apply pressure. In the 53rd minute, a cross by Monk found the right foot of Chava Villanueva in the box and the strike found the back of the net to put a stop to the Yorkville shutout.

Morris continued to control possession for the remainder of the half, but despite several good scoring chances the score would end at 5-1 and Yorkville would improve to 13-4 (6-2), while Morris would drop to 8-8-1 (2-5).

It was a tough way to end it for senior Josh Schmitt, but the captain couldn’t have been prouder of his team’s effort on senior night.

“Being out here with these guys, I wouldn’t walk on this field without any of them.” Schmitt said. “This is the best coach I’ve ever had, and it’s all about Redskin Pride. This team means the world to me, and this field means the world to me and it’s just amazing that I got to play on it.”
