Minooka wins on Homecoming to keep playoff hopes alive

Not only was it Minooka's homecoming, but it was a do or die situation for the football team as well, as they were one loss away from not being able to qualify from the playoffs. Feeding off that, the Indians decided to strike first, scoring on a 32-yard touchdown pass from senior Joe Carnagio to senior to Max Brozovich, giving Minooka the 7-0 first quarter lead.

"I ran a corner route and I knew it was going to be there," Brozovich said. "I knew I had to jump and make a play and luckily I stayed concentrated throughout and made the grab."

Once the emotions settled down, though, Oswego East was able to run their offense. After a Minooka turnover gave the Wolves the ball at the 15 yard line, they were able to score on a 12 yard touchdown grab from tight end Conor Nally, tying the game up at 7 early on in the second quarter.

After the half, though, the Indians finally were able to break away from the Wolves. It started with a Jake Stytz 20 yard field goal to make it 10-7.

The ensuing East drive, the Indians forced a turnover, getting the ball at their own 49 yard line. The next play, Max Brozovich got a hand off, then threw it 51 yards down the field to Mark Fox for a touchdown to open it up for Minooka.

"I wouldn't say I was afraid I was going to miss Mark on the pass, I knew he was going to catch it," Brozovich said.

"It was only a matter of time that type of play happened, whether it be from us or them," head coach Paul Forsythe said. "Credit coach Frank Yudzentis for calling up that play."

The Indians scored two more rushing touchdowns from Nate Gunn and Matt Hoh to result in the final score of the game.

Although the win is nice for the Indians, Minooka had a big test next week against Plainfield North if they want to make it to the postseason this year.
