Warriors sweep Mokena, with varsity moving to 6-1
The Morris Warriors varsity youth football team continued its march toward the playoffs with a 24-0 win over the Mokena Junior Griffins on Saturday.
Keagan Sobol ran back the opening kickoff for a 73-yard touchdown. Offensively the Warriors put up over 200 yards on the ground behind running from Michael Gerischer, Austin Dearing, Kyion Willis and Alec Matteson. The 6-1 Warriors defense got leading efforts from Paulie Ostafin, Alex Lawyer, Alonzo Enriques and Avery Hofmann.
The Warriors face Joliet in next Saturday’s homecoming game in Morris .
Offensively, the Warriors (4-3) racked up over 200 yards in a balanced offensive effort. In the air, quarterback Mitchell Mayberry connected with Austin Hatcher and Marcus Kjellesvik.
Leading rushers included Ryan Bezely, Daniel Borgstrom and Waycee Templet.
On the defensive side, the Warriors received great efforts from TJ Weber, Tony Menozi, Mason Lewis and Seth Coote.
Runs from Kevin Countryman, Nick Matthias, Perry Willis and Zach Reddinger led the Warriors (7-0) on offense.
Defensively the Warriors dominated with outstanding efforts from Zander Smith, Nate Hart, Mundo Meyer, Jack Matthias, Michael Fieden and Cole Laurie.
The young Warriors (4-3) put up over 130 yards rushing behind Tristan Martin, Cameron Hatcher and Cameron Anderson.
The Warriors defense did not allow a score until late, with leading tackling efforts from Sam Reddinger, Zach Romak, Troy Mutz and Julian Gonzalez. The Warriors recovered two fumbles and had two interceptions.
