Minooka harriers entering 'championship season'

If there is one cross country team in the Morris Daily Herald readership area that knows about the "championship season", it's the Minooka harriers. Now in the 14th season under the direction of Kevin Gummerson, the Indians boys and girls teams are both seeking a fifth straight trip to the IHSA State Meet held at Detweiller Park in Peoria.

"To me it's the favorite time of the year," Gummerson said. "The weather is starting to break a little bit. We're getting some cooler weather here. It's a good time to see where we are after putting in all of that work since June. It's an exciting time of the year. We've got a lot to look forward to, without a doubt."

The "championship" portion of the season for the Indians officially starts on Saturday at the Southwest Prairie Conference Meet.
