(MCT) — A drunken passenger threw a beer bottle at a CTA Brown Line train operator and missed, but the man's girlfriend then scratched the operator's face, police said.

The incident occurred at 9:50 p.m. at the Damen station in the 4600 block of North Damen Avenue in the Ravenswood neighborhood and delayed service for more than 20 minutes, according to the CTA.

The 44-year-old operator had gone to check out a noisy disturbance on the northbound train, according to the CTA and police.

The operator came upon a couple who appeared to be intoxicated and were loudly quarreling as they left the train, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

The man hurled a beer bottle at the operator but missed, Alfaro said. The woman then attacked the operator, scratching him on the left side of his face.

The operator suffered only minor cuts and was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where he was expected to be treated and released.

The couple fled the station.

CTA spokesman Brian Steele said the station's surveillance cameras were being checked.
