Second time, a rout
OTTAWA — Morris junior midfielder Matt Thayer admits that nerves may have contributed to the Redskins putting just two shots on goal of Tuesday's regional match against Reed-Custer.
A Thayer goal shortly after halftime helped spark a five-goal second half for the Redskins, who defeated the Comets 6-0 in the semifinal round of the 2A Ottawa Boys Soccer Regional. With the win, the second-seeded Redskins move on to play top-seeded Herscher in the regional championship Saturday at 11 a.m.
Morris registered five early off-goal shots before junior forward Nestor Rodriguez put a long liner on the Reed-Custer keeper just under 10 minutes into the match. Its only other on-goal shot was a Kyle Monk goal, assisted by Chava Villanueva, at 20:30.
