(MCT) — Authorities today released the identity of a man who was fatally struck as he walked along Interstate 55 near southwest suburban Plainfield over the weekend.
Officials with the Will County coroner's office said that Ryan A. Knudson, 22, was struck by several vehicles just before 5:30 a.m. Sunday on the northbound I-55 just north of U.S. Highway 30.
The vehicles, which included a 2005 Freightliner, struck Knudson, of Plainfield, as he walked in the right lane, according to Illinois State police.
An autopsy performed earlier today confirmed that Knudson died of multiple injuries from the multiple collisions, but the cause and manner of death was still pending an inquest, scheduled for a future date, coroner's officials said.
Authorities haven't said why they believe Knudson was walking on the roadway.
