Dist. 1 receives Morris Hospital Foundation grant for wellness night

COAL CITY — Coal City Community Unit School District #1 received a grant check from the Morris Hospital Foundation at the district's board meeting Monday night.

The district's wellness committee was awarded $1,000 in grant funding for its annual Family Wellness Night, which was started to encourage students and their families to live healthier.

Superintendent Dr. Kent Bugg said the event was first held in the previous school year and brought in about 25 vendors and about 600 students, their families and community members. He said the committee decided to apply for the grant as a way to improve the event after some commented about the lack of food last year.

I'm in favor of anything that will help improve school finances
I will support it if it helps to lower my property taxes
I oppose it because I don't believe it will impact property taxes and I will just pay twice
I'm against any additional taxes
I have not heard enough yet to form an opinion
