Paralyzed Florida man sues company at center of fungal-meningitis outbreak
(MCT) — ORLANDO, Fla. — As the death toll linked to contaminated steroids rose Thursday, a lawyer for a Florida man paralyzed by the tainted medicine sued the company at the center of the fungal-meningitis outbreak, saying it put profit over people.
The lawsuit, filed in Orange County for Godwin Mitchell, 87, was the first in Florida to accuse the New England Compounding Pharmacy of negligence. About a dozen similar lawsuits have been filed in federal and state courts on behalf of other patients.
