Substance discharges from ExxonMobil refinery
Officials say incident poses no danger, not impacting Channahon
CHANNAHON — Gasoline and heavier materials that are part of the crude oil refining process were released from a processing unit at ExxonMobil Joliet Refinery, Interstate 55 and Arsenal Road, Channahon, at about 9 a.m. Friday morning.
Industrial hygienists were immediately deployed to monitor the area, according to a press release from ExxonMobil's Public Affairs Manager Tricia Simpson. No health impacts have been identified.
Because the wind was blowing east Friday morning, none of the materials made their way into Channahon, Channahon Police Chief Jeff Wold said. Officers were sent to investigate the roadways in Channahon and nothing was visible on the roads and the pavement was not slippery.
