Long Knights

KANELAND — Low scoring early and high scoring late. When all the dust had settled on what amounted to the Northern Illinois Big 12 football championship, Kaneland had defeated Morris for the third straight season — this time by a 33-30 final.

After just 17 total points were scored in the first half, both teams exploded after the break. The second half barrage ended with just 27 seconds left in the game when Kaneland scored on a pass play from quarterback Drew David to Zach Martinelli of 5 yards. It overcame what had been a 30-27 lead by the Redskins.

Morris had taken the lead on a 49-yard TD run by Redskins quarterback Zach Cinnamon with just under two minutes to go.
