Emmanuel Esparza, 24, of Calumet Park, Ill., was arrested by Grundy County deputies for possession of a controlled substance at Illinois 113 and Illinois 47, Morris, Monday, Oct. 29.

According to the arrest report, a deputy conducted a traffic stop after seeing Esparza travel over the white fog line twice and seeing an air freshener in his vehicle that obstructed his view.

During the stop, after receiving backup, deputies requested a search of Esparza and his vehicle and obtained consent, and found a plastic bag containing about 2.3 grams of a substance suspected to be cannabis and a multicolored glass smoking device in the vehicle and six yellow pills in his pocket.

The pills were later identified as Xanax, a Schedule 4 narcotic, while a portion of the substance in the plastic bag was field tested and found to be cannabis.

He was cited for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Grundy County jail and held pending a bond hearing.
