Morris police assisted the Morris Fire and Ambulance Protection District on a call of picnic tables on fire at Goold Park Sunday afternoon.

According to the Morris Police Department report, at about 2:55 p.m., an officer responded to the area of 300 Northern Avenue in Morris, where there several picnic tables were reported as on fire in the pavilion.

When the officer arrived on-scene, he observed one table still on fire in the pavilion, which was near the swimming pool, and Morris Fire arrived on-scene.

A witness told police he was driving by and saw several tables on fire, and that flames were high enough to hit the ceiling of the pavilion, but before the officer arrived, the flames died down.

He did not report seeing anyone in the area.

Firefighters put out the fires, and four tables were reported as damaged from the fire.

The pavilion’s ceiling also had minor damage.
