ROUNDUP: Newark defeats Seneca

SOMONAUK — Seneca was outscored in every quarter on its way to a 42-29 varsity girls basketball loss to Newark Tuesday at the Tim Humes Breakout Tournament.

"We struggled finding a way to put the ball in the hole against a good Newark team," Seneca coach Barb Beck said. "I felt the ladies showed more patience tonight than last. We will continue to work on finding some different combinations."

Kayla Milakis of Newark was the game's leading scorer with 12 points. Mallory Misener scored 9 points to lead Seneca (0-2), which got 7 from Kayla Haines.

LEXINGTON — Chelsea Schultz scored 9 points and Breann Fisher added 8 Tuesday for Gardner-South Wilmington at the Lexington Holiday Classic.

CHANNAHON — Four Indians — Dylan Pickett (639), Ryan Duggins (628), Zach Segatto (611) and John Kauffman (604) — bowled 600 series Tuesday in the Southwest Prairie Conference win at Channahon Lanes. Pickett's 242 game was a team high.

Minooka won 2,825-2,054 at the junior varsity level behind a 607 from Jack Russell.

MINOOKA — Brooklyn Bachmann scored 16 points and Riley Seput totaled 9 Tuesday for the Minooka (15-0) eighth-grade girls.

Mallory Bush and Hailey Justak were the leading scorers for Minooka (9-6) in a last-second seventh-grade loss.

Seneca 36,
Milton Pope 20

MARSEILLES — Eva Bruno scored 11 points and Abby Hawk added 10 Monday in the eighth-grade win by the Lady Raiders (14-5).

Alayna Byczynski had 10 points for Milton Pope.

Morgan Pifer's 9 points led Seneca (12-7) in a 19-14 seventh-grade win. Randi Rohder totaled 10 points for Milton Pope.

MVK 18

Morgan Pifer scored 11 points and Madisen Maloney added 6 last Friday for Seneca (11-7) in the Illinois Valley Conference West championship.

Sara Cahill scored 8 points for Mazon-Verona-Kinsman.
