Just three years after the grand opening, construction is once again under way at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers’ Ridge Road Campus in Channahon to make way for an expansion of services.
The build out of 1,800 square feet of space on the second floor will be dedicated to subspecialty physician offices. In the Imaging Services suite on the first floor, accommodations are being made for a new low-dose CT scanner.
“The time is right to provide the Channahon and Minooka communities with convenient access to low-dose CT services and physician specialists in conjunction with the primary care physicians who are well established at the Ridge Road Campus,” said Patrick O’Connor, chief operating officer at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. “We have a commitment to making health care services convenient and easily accessible for those living in the communities we serve.”
The availability of CT will complement the other imaging services modalities that have been available at the 26,000-square-foot facility since its opening in October 2009, including mammography, ultrasound and x-ray. Immediate Care, Occupational Medicine, and Laboratory Services are also available at the Ridge Road Campus and have been since the beginning.
“CT is going to be a great addition for the community,” O’Connor said. “There’s no other CT available in the area, and we’re going to be able to offer same-day appointments. The CT model we’re looking at has a special feature called low-dose technology that delivers 30 percent less radiation, so patients are going to be getting state-of-the-art technology. It’s also going to be a tremendous convenience for patients seen at our Ridge Road Immediate Care who need a CT. Now, they’ll literally be able to go across the hall to complete their diagnosis.”
The total price tag on the project is $1 million, including approximately $500,000 for equipment and $500,000 for construction. Narvick Brothers of Morris is serving as the general contractor, with a commitment to keeping roughly 80 percent of the construction dollars within the Morris Hospital service area by using local plumbers, electricians, painters, flooring, cabinetry and other services that will be needed to complete the project.
Construction at the Ridge Road Campus is expected to be completed early in the new year.
Serving patients in 18 communities, Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers includes the 89-bed Morris Hospital, as well as the Braidwood, Channahon, Dwight, Gardner, Marseilles, Minooka, Morris and Newark Healthcare Centers. Through the services of over 1,600 health care professionals, physicians and volunteers, Morris Hospital provides lifesaving cardiac intervention with angioplasty and stents, a radiation therapy center for cancer patients, a state-of-the-art intensive care unit, a dedicated pediatric unit, and immediate care services at two
locations.
Morris Hospital is a Level II trauma center and a Level II perinatal care provider with an intermediate care nursery.
