FAIRBURY — Morris built a 29-15 halftime lead but lost 45-40 to Flanagan-Cornell Thursday at the Prairie Central varsity girls basketball tournament.
"Defensively we really did a heck of a job," Morris coach Luke Windy said of the first half. "I don't know what happened in the second half. All of a sudden, we stopped talking, stopped rebounding and stopped playing team defense. Offensively there pressure really took us out of our rhythm. We took some quick shots when we didn't need to."
Morris (1-2) was led by Katie Friend's 16 points. Julie Jurasits turned in 9 and Ashley Bojovic 8.

SOMONAUK — Chelsie McCormick's 9 points led the way Wednesday for Seneca, which won overtime 10-2 at the Tim Humes Breakout Tournament. Kayla Haines and Courtney Helms had 8 points and Molly Novotney 6.
"It was nice to pick up the first win of the season," Beck said. "We had a balanced scoring night and hit the boards hard."

LEXINGTON — Three players in double figures — Lexi Posing with 14 points, Breann Fisher with 12 and Chelsea Schultz with 10 — was not enough for Gardner-South Wilmington Thursday at the Lexington Tournament.
"I felt like overall we played much better tonight than in our previous two games," GSW coach Adam Leigh said. "We took better care of the ball and were more aggressive offensively. Our shooting has still been struggling quite a bit, but hopefully we'll get that turned around quickly."
