(MCT) — Three adults were charged Wednesday afternoon in connection with the death of a 14-month-old boy whose beating death in August in Cahokia prompted a first-degree murder charge against a 9-year-old boy.
St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly declined to release details about the homicide.
The victim's name and the 9-year-old's name were not released because of their ages.
In the latest round of charges, the infant's mother, Alisha E. Johnson, 22, of 414 Levin Drive, Cahokia, was charged with five counts of endangering the life of a child.
Melissa A. Wilbourn, 31, of 234 Judith Lane, Cahokia, and David J. Hollis, 42, of 310 Isabell, Cahokia, where the child's death occurred, also were each charged with five counts of endangering the life of a child.
The charges allege the adults allowed the 14-month-old child to be left unsupervised in the home with four other children 11 years old and younger.
Johnson and Wilbourn were arrested Wednesday and Hollis remained at large as of Wednesday night.
In August, Kelly said that, by law, the 9-year-old cannot be tried as an adult.
