Don Ryan, business services coordinator for the Illinois Department of Employment Security, was the facilitator for the unemployment insurance workshop held in Morris.

Local employers gathered from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, to participate in a free workshop facilitated by the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

Those in attendance included human resource staff, business owners, managers and anyone responsible for employment services and unemployment insurance processing.

Don Ryan, business services coordinator from the Illinois Department of Employment Security, facilitated the workshop. He gave an informative and lively presentation on the IDES business solutions, including resources for employers seeking skilled workers to fill job vacancies.

Topics addressed in the session included registration and use of the Illinois JobLink System, veterans programs, use of local offices for recruitment purposes, re-entry employment services program, fidelity bonding, migrant seasonal farm worker program, work opportunity tax credit and provision of labor market information.

The workshop also focused on the employers’ right to consent unemployment insurance claims and chargeability with emphasis on due dates of protests and what information should be included with written protests.

Employers participated in mock adjudication interviews that detailed the processes conducted by local office staff with claimants and employers during the initial fact-finding investigation.

Mock interviews also touched on voluntary leave, misconduct and refusal of work.

The workshop was at no cost and sponsored by the Grundy Livingston Kankakee Workforce Board, the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce and Joliet Junior College Workforce Services. For additional information, contact Ann Rzasa at (815) 585-6722 or arzasa@glkwb.com.
