Two Seneca FFA members bring home top ag honors

Briscoe, Granby earn recognition at national event

Hard work, accounting ability and communication skills have paid off in a big way for two Seneca FFA members.

Nick Briscoe and Austin Granby, interviewed at the National FFA Convention in the national proficiency award program. Briscoe was declared the national winner while Granby was a runner-up. 

Both received a substantial monetary award and Granby won a trip to Costa Rica. 

Briscoe’s Supervised Agriculture Experience Program consisted of his employment at Agri-Tile farm drainage and at Prairie Creek Grain Company. Nick is currently attending Drake University, majoring in business management. He is the son of Bob and Ruth Briscoe of Mazon.

Granby manages his own enterprises as part of the Granby Greenhouse company. He is responsible for securing, purchasing and retailing straw and corn stalks to retail outlets. In addition to working at the greenhouse, he also produces pumpkins, broom corn and hogs.  He is the son of Gary Granby of Verona and Alise Marques of Mazon. In addition to attending Joliet Junior College, Granby is serving as the Section 7 FFA President.

Proficiency Awards recognize FFA members who excel as agriculture entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while they gain hands-on career experience. There are 49 such areas as part of the program in the FFA that recognizes outstanding Supervised Agriculture Experience Programs. 

The National FFA Organization, formerly known as Future Farmers of America, is a national youth organization of over 540,000 student members located in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.  FFA makes a difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
