ROUNDUP: Coal City wins championship at Beecher

BEECHER — Coal City outscored Shepard 14-0 during the third quarter on its way to a 42-18 victory Tuesday that clinched its first-ever championship at the Ladycat Fall Classic.

"This was a good win for this team," Coal City coach Brad Schmitt said. "We played well tonight defensively and were able to go on some runs offensively. Definitely a team win, but we had a number of people play well throughout this game, and I hope that will help their confidence as the year goes on."

Nicole Borgetti and Donjeta Shabani shared the Coal City (4-1) lead in points with 12, and Emily Halliday added 11 to go with 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

BEECHER — Britta Spelde had 12 points in the win while Halliday had 11, Donjeta Shabani had 8 and Borgetti 7 for the Lady Coalers.

BEECHER — Shabani had 14 points for Coal City.

BEECHER — Halliday had 17 points and Borgetti 14 to lead the Lady Coalers.

BEECHER — Shabani had 19 points and 6 rebounds, Halliday 14 points and Borgetti 12 points for the locals.

LEXINGTON — Breann Fisher and Chelsea Schultz scored 12 points each to lead Gardner-South Wilmington (2-3) as it completed a 2-2 showing at the Lexington Tournament on Tuesday. Fisher added 21 rebounds.

"We trailed the whole game and were able (to) crawl back at the end of the game and knock down a couple of free throws to send it to overtime," GSW coach Adam Leigh said.

LEXINGTON — Chelsea Schultz had 13 points for GSW.

AURORA — Erin Heide had 9 points for Minooka in tournament play at Waubonsie Valley.

AURORA — Larissa McLemen had 10 points for Minooka and Heide and Karlie Carter had 6 each.

AURORA — McLemen had 11 points and Heide 8 for the Indians.

AURORA — The Lady Comets finished fourth at the IMSA tournament with the loss. Courtney Welch had 11 points and Caitlyn Wesch 10 points for Reed-Custer.
