Roger Burl Lucus

EMINGTON, Ill. — Mr. Roger Burl Lucus, 64, of Emington, Ill., passed away Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2012, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.

Born March 27, 1948, Roger was the son of Burl and Shirley (Talbot) Lucus. He attended Goodfarm Grade School, Dwight High School and a few years of college.

Roger was married to Donna Gumm, Glenda Alexander and Mary Spray.

Roger was a heavy equipment operator, including driving a wrecker in the mountains of California, but most of his employment was as an over-the-road trucker until he experienced disabling injuries in an accident. He later ran a video rental store in Dwight for several years.

He was a member of Livingston Lodge #371, Ancient Free and Accepted Mason's of Ilinois. He was a member of the Dwight United Methodist Church.

Roger's first love was farming. He grew up on the farm working with his father. He had been well known at local Euchre tournaments. Roger's dogs were almost like children to him, especially Devo.

Many people sought Roger's council in times of trouble. He even opened his home to several youth in need.

Survivors include a daughter, Echo (Marty) Brown of Pontiac; four sons, Sean Lucus of Emington, Aaron (Rita) Lucus of Dwight, Brandon (Racheal) Lucus of Farmington, N.M., Bryan (Kelly Donahue) Lucus of Pontiac; his parents, Burl and Shirley Lucus of Dwight; two sisters, Sheryl (Lyle) Landstrom and Beverly (Gary) DeLong; a brother, Chuck (Jan) Lucus; and nine grandchildren, Shane, Matthew, Andrea, Danielle, Wade, Elizabeth, Bryce, Anson and Madlyn. Other survivors are one aunt, Carolyn Lucus; one uncle John Robert Talbot;  locally, two nieces, Jesse Landstrom and Rachel (Landstrom) Meckley; plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Andrea and Holley; one son, Erik; one brother, Francis in infancy; grandparents, Ross J. and Lorena (Cashmer) Lucus and Ralph and Helen (Miller) Talbot.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the memorial home. Pastor Lance Leeds will officiate.

Burial will be at Long Point Cemetery, Streator.

Memorials may be directed to Dwight United Methodist Church in Roger's name or to the charity of the donor's choice.
