GARDNER — Mr. John L. Louis, 89, of Gardner, passed away at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Oak Crest, DeKalb Area Retirement Center, DeKalb, Ill.
Born Feb. 14,1923, in rural Emington, Ill., John was the son of Ludwig and Margaret (Goley) Louis.
Johne married Mary Kathryn "Kay" Verdun on Nov. 4, 1944 in Odell, Ill. He farmed with his wife Kay his whole life in the Dwight area.
John was an active member of the church his entire life and a past Grandknight of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary "Kay;" a daughter, Rosanne (Don) Sherwood of Beach Park, Ill..; two sons, David (Mary Anne) Louis of Rochelle, Ill., and Jeffry (JoAnne) Louis of Sycamore, Ill.; a sister, Anna Louise (Clarence) Masching of Odell; two brothers, Vincent (Jean) Louis of Florida and Joseph Louis of Iowa; 6 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter in infancy, Mary Louise; and a sister, Mary Margaret Masching.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight.
A Mass of Christian burial will beat 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dwight. Father James Rickey will officiate.
Burial will be at Loretto Cemetery, Loretto.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Oak Crest Retirement Center, DeKalb, Ill.
Hager Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
