MINOOKA — Minooka village trustees last week unanimously approved a new agreement with Grundy County for animal control services.
The annual cost under the new contract is $6,316.20, a savings of $30 per month from the previous agreement.
The only issue, said Village Administrator Dan Duffy, is that sometime over the years, wording was omitted in the agreement for services within village limits, but outside of Grundy County.
Trustee Barry Thompson said the service was removed from the village contract because the county didn’t want to go outside its limits.
Duffy said he would like to negotiate that service back into the agreement. He is working with Grundy County Board Chairman Ron Severson to accomplish that.
“It’s my understanding we don’t have a lot of calls outside the county, (but) it’s good to have a backup plan,” Duffy said.
Services needed in Kendall or Will counties would be on an as-needed basis and charged a higher fee than the contract amount, including mileage.
Trustees approved the agreement pending approval of putting the out-of-county service language back.
In other matters, the board:
• Approved a contract with Robinson Engineering Ltd. for design of a water main and sanitary sewer force main replacement at Interstate 80 and Minooka Road at a cost not to exceed $38,625. The existing utilities have to be relocated from under what is planned to be a roadway to an accessible location, Duffy said.
• Approved the purchase of a 2013 Case 580 backhoe at a cost of $82,360. By trading in another piece of equipment, the cost will be reduced by $10,000, said Public Works Superintendent Rob Tonarelli.
• Approved the first amendment to the fiscal year 2013 budget since it was adopted six months ago. The board requested $20,000 be incorporated into the budget to participate with Grundy County in the Brisbin Road transportation study.
