(MCT) — OTTAWA — LaSalle County emergency management workers have signed on to a new alert system for cellphones.

Fred Moore, deputy director of the county’s Emergency Management Agency, said the federal government has already approved the technology, with the state expected to sign on by the end of the year.

Most cell phone users will be notified of an emergency such as tornadoes. The system will eventually include local radio and cable stations, he said.
