Fire damages Morris home

Blaze that displaces family caused by faulty dishwasher

Firefighters were able to save a dog from a house fire on Trend Drive Thursday, but a cat was lost in the blaze.

The fire at 1255 Trend Drive in Morris did not injure any people, but made the home uninhabitable for owner Dennis Bryant and his family. The fire was caused by a malfunction in the dishwasher, said Bob Wills, assistant fire chief for the Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District.

Wills estimated about $100,000 worth of damage — $70,000 in the home and $30,000 in contents. The call came in a little before 12:30 p.m. and the fire was under control within 10 minutes.
