CHANNAHON — Looking for something for your kids to do over the Winter Break? Need someplace safe and fun for your kids to go while they are off of school and you are at work?
The Channahon Park District has the perfect solution no matter what you are looking for.

The park district will offer six days of camp that will be filled with fun, skating, arts and crafts, bowling, snacks, and much more. The days are themed, so pick one or two that interest your child most or pick them all. Themes include:
• Wednesday, Dec. 26 — Wonder of Winter;
• Thursday, Dec. 27 — Winter Olympics;
• Friday, Dec. 28 — This is how we roll (Bowling);
• Wednesday, Jan. 2 — Creative Crafting;
• Thursday, Jan. 3 — Winter Break Trip to Schaumburg Park District’s indoor water park: Water Works!;
• Friday, Jan. 4 — Disco Fever.
If you register your child for all six days of Winter Break Camp, you will receive 10 percent off the cost of the Winter Break Trip on Thursday, Jan. 3.
After The Bell is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. all days of Winter Break Camp and all the students need to bring is a lunch each day. The park district will provide the snacks, supplies, activities, and supervision.
The program holds a 12-1 ratio between staff and students and all staff are trained in First Aid and CPR.
The park district can also entertain your 3- to 7-year-olds during Winter Break. From Dec. 26-28, Preschool Winter Break Camp will be held for 3- to 5-year-olds. Price is $13 for residents and $16 for non-residents per day and class is from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Each day offers new crafts, activities, stories and songs. The themes for Preschool Winter Break Camp are Cool Concoctions, Gingerbread Fun, and Arctic Blast.
Another option is Holiday Traditions and Celebrations Around the World, the Winter Break Cooking Camp.
Chef Tamara will teach 4- to 7-year-olds new recipes, as well as kitchen safety. Class is Dec. 26-28, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. each day, and price is $37 for residents and $48 for non-residents.
Channahon Park District is also offering many fun and educational programs for children 6 to 12 years old.
Computer Explorers is having a Harry Potter Moviemaking class from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 27. The price is $35 for residents and $45 for non-residents.
Another option is the Winter Break Cooking Camp designed for older children.
Chef Tamara will teach all aspiring chefs ages 7 to 12 years how to cook recipes from holidays and celebrations around the world. Classes are Dec. 26-28, from 10 a.m. to noon. The price is $43 for residents and $55 for non-residents.
Bring your budding dancer to Ms. Karen’s Holiday Park District Dance Camp. The camp will be held at Joliet Park District and is for 4- to 12-year olds.
Participants will be grouped by age and will learn different dance styles, movement and tumbling. Students will also swim daily at Inwood Athletic Club.
Dance camp is Dec.26-28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is $63 for residents and $81 for non-residents.
Are your kids into sports? The Channahon Park District has plenty of athletic opportunities over the winter break season to keep the kids active!
The Chicago White Sox Holiday Hitting Club is coming back again this year. Instructors from the Bulls/Sox Training Academy will cover the essentials to be successful at the plate.
The class is Dec. 26-28 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. each day. All participants will receive a White Sox Hitting Club T-Shirt and a Sox Hitting Club manual. This program is for ages 6 to 12. Fees are $100 for residents and $130 for non-residents.
For those looking to take their tumbling skills to the next level, the Advanced Tumbling Workshop is for you. Instructors will work with participants on back handsprings, front handsprings, aerials and more. The program is for those ages 8 to 14.
The camp will be Dec. 26-28 from 1 to 3 p.m. The fees are $37 for residents and $48 for non-residents.
Scott Slocum will be running a basketball camp for all those looking to get ready for the upcoming season. There will be a camp for 3rd through 5th graders and another for 6th, 7th and 8th graders. The camps will run Jan. 2-4, 2013.
This will be a great opportunity for those looking to improve their skills for the Channahon Park District basketball league, which has registration until Jan. 7th. Fees are $30 for residents and $39 for non-residents.
Skateland Recreation Center is having afternoon Holiday Skates throughout the Winter Break. They will also be celebrating New Year’s Eve on Dec. 31 with the After Noon Year Celebration for families and the Black and White New Year’s All Nighter for teens.
Other drop in programs include open gym at Heritage Crossing Field House and Holiday Fitness Classes for teens and adults.
