Church caps 2012 by helping again

Around 170 families receive food during December pantry

Approximately 170 area families took part in the mobile food pantry in Gardner on Wednesday, Dec. 12, which was sponsored by New Community Christian Church.

With a total of 9,906 pounds of food delivered, each household received approximately 58 pounds of food, including 7 pounds of frozen meat and a wide variety of other items, including lunch meat and cheese, black bean soup, laundry aids, cherry tomatoes, a 10-pound bag of potatoes, fresh yellow peppers, granola and bread.

"We are so thankful for our friends at New Community Christian Church," said We Care's Denise Gaska. "Not only do they sponsor a couple of Fill the Pantries for us each year, they also assist with Thanksgiving meals and adopt a number of families for Christmas gifts and food, and they sponsor a couple of mobile pantries each year.
