Dorothy Eileen Christian
NEWARK, Ill. — Mrs. Dorothy Eileen Christian, 92, of Newark, Ill., went home to be with her Lord on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Ill.
Born Aug. 17, 1920, in Franklin Grove, Ill., Dorothy was the daughter of Russell C. and Bertha (Boyd) Hughes, Sr.
Dorothy was united in marriage on June 19, 1943 in Helmar Lutheran Church in Newark, Ill., to Howard T. Christian. They were blessed with 69 happy years together. She was a school teacher for 22 years in the Lisbon and other area one room schools.
Dorothy was a longtime member of the Helmar Lutheran Church and was very active in her work for the Lord. She was also a member of the Kendall County Retired Teachers Association.
Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt, who will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Christian of Newark, Ill.; her children, Robert (Pamela) Christian, Mark (Bess) Christian and Beth (John) Talley, all of Newark; her grandchildren, Kristi (Todd) Rice of Senoia, Ga., Robin (David) Jameson of Walnut, Ill., Cheri (Jason) Amaru of Orleans, Mass., Eric (Kristine) Christian, Timothy (Jennifer) Christian, Emily (Peter) Slayton, Christian (Nicole) Talley, and Leslie (Brandon) Sullivan, all of Newark; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Christian of Yorkville, Ill.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell C. and Bertha Hughes, Sr.; her brother, Russell C. Hughes, Jr; and her sister, LaVon Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at the Helmar Lutheran Church, 11935 Lisbon Road, Newark.
Interment will follow at the Helmar Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, until the hour of service at the Helmar Lutheran Church in Newark, Ill.
