Thomas A. Benson
Mr. Thomas A. "Tom" Benson, 62, of rural Morris, Ill., passed away peacefully with his loving family by his bedside early Tuesday morning, Dec. 18, 2012, in his home.
Born March 31, 1950, in Morris, he was the son of Adelbert and Evelyn Wills Benson. He received his education in the Morris schools and graduated from Morris Community High School with the Class of 1968. He graduated from Joliet Junior College with an associate degree in Agriculture.
Tom married Susan J. "Sue" Chouinard on Feb. 27, 1970, in Immaculate Conception Church in Morris.
He proudly served in country in the U. S. Army Reserves for six years.
Mr. Benson was employed as an electrician with the Fox Valley Press for Copley Newspapers in Plainfield, Ill., until his retirement in 1998, and he farmed for over 20 years in Wauponsee Township.
A member of Peace Lutheran Church, he was also a member of Happy Hill Aerie #1024 F.O.E., Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #967, and Morris Lions Club.
Surviving are his three loving children, Martin T. ,and his wife Kim, Benson of Morris, Amy S., and her husband Mike, Pitsenberger of Shorewood, Ill., and Joseph J., and his wife Lori, Benson of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; one brother, James, and his wife Ruth Ann, Benson, of rural Morris; and his loving caregiver, Brenda Everette of Braceville, Ill.,; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at U. C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris, Ill., where funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, with the Rev. Kris Ann Zierke officiating. Interment will follow in Sample Cemetery.
Preferred form of remembrance would be memorial gifts in Tom’s memory directed to We Care of Grundy County.
