CARBON HILL — Carbon Hill Historical Society’s annual Holiday Open House will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at the Carbon Hill School Museum, 875 Second St., Carbon Hill, Ill.

The 12th year for the holiday event features “A Doll for Christmas,” “Old Time Santas,”  and “Sparkle, Glittler, Glow.”

Anyone still looking for a Christmas gift will find several local books for sale, including:

• “Cardiff, Ghost Town on the Prairie “by Jim Ridings — with other ghost towns of the area included.

• “Fossils” by Tom V. Testa — a high resolution picture book of some of the most amazing Mazonia fossils uncovered.

• “Promise of a Better Life” by Jim Piacenti — a book about coal mining in Bureau County: Ladd, Cherry, Spring Valley, etc.

• “Grundy County” by David Belden — a book of photo postcards which make an interesting and quick way to learn local history.

The event will also offer vintage paperweights, featuring an original photo of the Carbon Hill School in its early years.

Refreshments, friendship and music all served free.
